About OIC

Osaka International Church (OIC) is an interdenominational protestant Christian fellowship serving the greater Osaka metropolitan area. The congregation of OIC includes Christians from many countries around the world, including a substantial number from Japan. The Sunday morning service is conducted in English with simultaneous interpretation available through wireless receivers, and Saturday evening service is done bilingually in English and Japanese.

As our people come to worship from many different cultural and denominational backgrounds, OIC works to provide a common ground of worship, fellowship, and teaching for all. This common ground is the "Solid Rock", Jesus Christ, who gives true stability to all who build their lives upon Him.

History

In 1974, God gave Rev. Peter Okayama a heart to begin an evangelical international fellowship in Osaka. As other Japanese brethren joined in prayer with Pastor Okayama, the vision gave birth to the beginning of the Osaka International Church.

In October 1974, at Rev. Okayama's invitation, Rev. Jack Marshall began leading services in downtown hotels and Christian Centers. Rev. Marshall served as pastor of OIC for eighteen years until he returned to the United States in 1992. Under Rev. Marshall's godly and steady leadership, Osaka International Church developed into a spiritual haven for the international community in Osaka.

Since 2002, Daniel Ellrick has been serving as pastor of OIC. Pastor Dan and his wife Karen are missionaries with Mission to Unreached Peoples, and from 1996 to 2002 they served with a Japanese church in Hiroshima. They came to Osaka with a vision to plant new cell churches in the Kansai area, and when they got here God led them to OIC as well. They are slowly continuing the cell church work while Dan leads OIC. For more about the Ellricks and their ministry, see proverbs2525.org.

   Other pastors:

  • Brian Cummins: 1992 to 1995
  • Ron Hobden: 1996 to 1999
  • David Tomko: 1999 to 2002

What We Believe

I

We believe the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired Word of God without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for the salvation of men, and the Divine and final authority for all Christian faith and life. 2 Timothy 3:16

II

We believe in one God, creator of all things, infinitely perfect, and eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. 1 Peter 1:2

III

We believe that Jesus Christ is true God and true man, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He died on the cross a perfect and complete sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures. Further, He rose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, where at the right hand of the majesty on high, He is now our High Priest and Advocate. Luke 1:34-35, 1 Timothy 2:5, Hebrews 8:1-2

IV

We believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ, and during this age to convict men of sin, regenerate the sinner, indwell, guide, instruct, and empower the believer for godly living and service. John 16:7-14

V

We believe that man was created in the image of God but fell into sin and is therefore lost, and only through regeneration by the Holy Spirit can salvation and spiritual life be obtained. Romans 5:15-19, Romans 8:15-17

VI

We believe that the shed blood of Jesus Christ and His resurrection provide the only ground for justification and salvation for all who believe, and that only such as receive Jesus Christ by faith are born of the Holy Spirit, and thus become the children of God. Romans 3:25-26, Ephesians 2:8-9

VII

We believe in the personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ, and that this 'blessed hope' has a vital bearing on the personal life and service of the believer. John 14:2-3, 1 John 3:2-3

VIII

We believe in the bodily resurrection of all the dead: of the believer to everlasting blessedness and joy with their Lord, and the unbeliever to judgment and everlasting conscious punishment. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, Hebrews 9:27

IX

We believe that the true Church is composed of all such persons, who have saving faith in Jesus Christ and have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit and are united together in the body of Christ of which He is the head. 1 Corinthians 12:12-13

X

We believe in the necessity of maintaining, according to the Word of God, the purity of the visible church in doctrine and life, particularly in regard to all forms of idolatry. Jude 3-4, Jude 21-23

Video

To get a flavor of the church, feel free to watch compressed version of the 25-second video clip that is used as the opening video for DVDs made of OIC teachings and events - choose your favorite player and connection from the table below.  (If you have both players, the Real One files are better.)  Also, note that these are not "streaming video" but just files to download, so even on a dialup connection you can choose a DSL/cable file if you want - you'll just have to wait longer before you can view it.
